FAQ

The Answers You Need

What is Tempeh?

Tempeh is a famous Indonesian food made by the controlled fermentation of cooked soybeans or other substrates with the help of fungus Rhizopus oligosporus.

Why should I eat tempeh?

Tempeh is highly nutritive and contains health promoting phytochemicals like isoflavones and saponins. The fermentation process actually produces natural antibiotic agents while leaving the desirable soy isoflavones as well as the saponins intact. Tempeh is rich in high quality protein, containing all essential amino acids.

What does tempeh taste like?

Tempeh has a mild, nutty taste. Some people also describe the flavor as mushroom-like or meaty.

What is in our tempeh?

Our tempeh are made with 3 ingredients only: water, tempeh starter and soybeans or other beans, pulses and lentils. That gives you plenty choices for your own customised tempeh. Vinegar is added during the inoculation process to provide a favorable environment for the growth of fungus Rhizopus oligosporus.
